With the current phase of the Museum of Somerset due for completion shortly, Somerset contractor Pollard, held a celebration to mark the achievement of the team in reaching this landmark
The £6.93 million project is restoring and improving the 12th century Taunton Castle and redeveloping the county museum located within it.
Bill Badham, Managing Director of Pollard, welcomed invited guests from Somerset County Council, Somerset Archaeological & Natural History Society, Friends of Somerset County Museum, Somerset Military Museum Trust and the design team. Commenting on the project, he said
“This has been an hugely challenging project, combining major improvements, refurbishment, conservation, a new welcome building and a state of the art learning centre, all within the confines of a Grade 1 listed castle. The transformation is quite spectacular and when the fit out phase is completed, this will be a major attraction for the region and one with which we are very proud to have been involved.”
Responding for the Museum of Somerset, Project Leader Tom Mayberry said
“We have reached this significant landmark through the skill, determination and expertise of a huge number of people. I am very grateful to everyone who has played a part in the remarkable transformation of this very special historic building”
The event was concluded with a presentation to Tom Mayberry by Bill Badham of an engraved glass paperweight commemorating Pollard’s 150th anniversary, which the company celebrates this year, followed by a tour of the building.
