Pollards Long History with YMCA
Regional contractor, Pollard has commenced work on the construction of the new George William Court in Bridgwater for the YMCA. Due for completion autumn 2011, this £1.75m development will see the construction of a new 3 storey accommodation unit comprising 35 beds, communal facilities and lounge, which has been negotiated following the success of the £4m Multi Use Centre contract with the YMCA, which is nearing completion.
Bill Badham, Managing Director of Pollard, commenting on the appointment said
“We pride ourselves in delivering a quality product, on target and to budget. We have successfully achieved this on the Multi Use Centre and we are thrilled that the YMCA is so pleased that they want to continue the relationship. Interestingly our association with the YMCA dates back nearly 125 years when we completed the first YMCA building in Bridgwater in 1887.”
Chief Executive of the YMCA, Martin Hodgson, said
“The funding from the Homes and Communities agency allows us to work in partnership with Pollards, Sedgemoor District Council and Smith Gamblin Architects to provide a sustainable solution to youth homelessness in Sedgemoor” “our site in Friarn Avenue when complete will truly be a YMCA for the 21c and have a range of facilities available for the whole community”
